Windows 10 is the latest version of Windows and although it has brought many improvements, some users are experiencing issues.

High latency after Windows 10 upgrade is one of the most common them, and can cause big-time trouble during your gaming sessions.

So we decided to see if there’s a way to fix this problem.

Reports show that ping spikes are common. High ping usually affects WiFi connection, but it’s also been reported on an Ethernet connection.

Some users even mention packet loss when experiencing high ping, which can be a big problem especially if you’re watching streaming online videos or games.

In some cases, latency problems can be caused by certain files, such as Ddis.sys.

So the following solutions apply to all these instances, but not only. Take each step in turn and hopefully, you won’t get to the end of the list before fixing the problem.

Quick tip

Before you start fixing this issue make sure that your drivers and the Windows 10 OS are up to date.

If you’re using an external WiFi or LAN card make sure that you visit the manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers from there. Otherwise, make sure that your motherboard drivers are the latest.

Some third-party tools such as DriverFix can help with scanning your system and detecting outdated drivers. Besides, they can also suggest the latest tools to download.

According to users, if you’re experiencing high latency in games, you might be able to fix the problem simply by disabling your antivirus or firewall.

Sometimes your antivirus software can interfere with your network connection and cause this or other errors to occur.  You want to check if your firewall is blocking a game or a port? Follow the simple steps in this guide to find out.

If disabling the antivirus doesn’t help, you need to remove it using its dedicated removal tool. Many antivirus companies offer removal tools for their software, so be sure to download one for your antivirus.

For the Norton users, we’ve got a dedicated guide on how to completely remove it from your PC. There’s a similar guide for McAffe users, as well.

In some cases, you might experience problems with high latency due to your wireless signal. Several users reported that their wireless signal was too weak and that was the cause of this problem.

To fix the issue, users are suggesting to move your PC closer to the router and check if that solves the issue.

If can’t move your PC closer to the router, you might want to consider purchasing a Wi-Fi extender or using an Ethernet connection instead.

  5. Now enter the next command and press Enter: netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=no interface=<Name of your Wireless Connection>

The problem should be completely resolved now. Keep in mind that your PC won’t search for nearby Wi-Fi networks in the background anymore.

If you want to connect to a wireless network, you’ll need to open Command Prompt as administrator and run the following: netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=yes interface=<Name of your Wireless Connection>

This is an advanced workaround, but many users reported that it works for them, so you might want to try it out.
