With the world in a state of crisis right now, it’s great to see developers chipping in and doing their bit. One such developer, thatgamecompany, has raised in excess of a million dollars for Doctors Without Borders through a promotion in Sky: Children of the Light.
Called the Days of Healing campaign, it saw a special in-game item being added to the game’s shop. Namely a special flower accessory that came in a bundle of 75 regular candles. All of the net proceeds from the sale of this pack, which cost $19.99, were pledged to Doctors Without Borders.
Now the campaign has come to an end, and players of Sky: Children of the Light have really lived up to the game’s name. It’s a huge amount of money, and everyone who took part and purchased the pack should be incredibly proud of what the community has achieved.
Sky: Children of the Light has been downloaded more than 20 million times since it came out. It’s a cooperative multiplayer platformer that’s full of heart and whimsy – and if you ask us heart and whimsy if what the world needs more of right now.
The Days of Healing campaign was part of the larger #playaparttogether drive that has seen some of the biggest developers and publishers in the world encouraging players to stay safe during the Covid-19 crisis.
It’s been a really heart-warming time to be a part of the mobile gaming community, we think you’ll agree. And this is just another demonstration of how gamers can work together to make the world a better place.
