Microsoft Outlook is crashing with 0xc0000005 errors

If you installed recent Windows Update or Office updates as soon as they came out, Microsoft’s Outlook wouldn’t run with the error message “0xc0000005”. The problem appears to stem from either Windows 10’s July 2020 cumulative update or recent Office update.

“Microsoft Outlook is currently experiencing problems opening after a recent software update. Microsoft is working to resolve the issue. Those affected can try Outlook Online as an alternative,” Microsoft said.

Some users have reported that reverting back to the older version of Outlook for Windows resolves the problem.

How to fix Microsoft Outlook error 0xc0000005

To fix Outlook error 0xc0000005 on Windows, follow these steps:

1. Open Windows Search.


2. Enter ‘cmd’.


3. Run the following command:
   
   cd “Program FilesCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedClickToRun”


4. Now, enter the following command:
   
   officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470
